The Hairstylist from Houston

A note for K.Bella: Babygirl where do I even begin with you!??! You know you are more than just a beautiful and talented hairstylist, but you are also my cousin and best friend. Actually, you're my sister from another mister honey and I am just so blessed to have you in my life. We been with each other since snotty nose and even when people tried to tear us apart we always held on even stronger. We've done sooooo much together, good, bad, and rebellious LOL. But I bet you we got more than 20 stories to tell the grandkids. I miss being young with you, staying up late, eating junk food, watching movies, talking to boys we were sprung as hell over, getting dressed extra ass fly just to go to the movies. Telling each other our deepest darkest secrets, crying in each others arms when shit got real, uncontrollable laughter for hours. But that time is gone. We are in a new chapter in life where we are mothers now with adult problems but we still laugh uncontrollably, tell each other secrets, and if we do nothing else, we definitely cry together. You are truly apart of me and I love you dearly. You are so talented and beautiful with an amazing soul. Everything that you do and have done is going to pay off my love I just know it! There's no other way. Thank you for taking the time out to be apart of artists of the week! Now, while I go wipe my tears because I'm sensitive, let's allow everyone to meet you!
Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I’m from Houston,Tx. Born & Raised.
How old were you when you first realized you had a passion for hair and makeup?
I started doing hair when I was in 4th or 5th grade. I couldn’t afford to pay someone to do it so I got into the mirror and did it myself . I got a passion for makeup a little after middle school
What was your favorite childhood memory involving art?
Everything involving art was my favorite as a child starting with arts & crafts class. I was amused.
What type of art do you feel connected to the most and why?
It’s hard to choose just one, cause I’m a very artistic person. I love hair, makeup , painting , music , etc. I can’t choose .
Being that you are a mother, what is your ultimate goal for your children and yourself with your business?
Besides my business my ultimate goal as a mother & for myself is to just “LIVE” . Don’t just exist , but live life. Life is short & God did not put us here just to exist.
You are my hairstylist and I just love you so much you’re so professional and you always do a bomb ass job! ALWAYS! It never fails. Which one of your services do you love doing the most, hair or makeup and why?
Thank you. I love you more my love! If I had to choose it’ll probably be makeup because it’s one thing to transform someone’s hair but to transform someone’s face and they look in the mirror and you see their confidence go from 0-1000 , it’s so uplifting and I love it.
Tell us about the first time you did a service for someone and how you felt going into it and coming out of it. Did you have a shift in confidence?
First time, I was nervous of course. I did it on myself so there’s so many thoughts while doing it… you don’t want to mess up, you hope they like it, you hope it comes out good, there’s just so many questions. But the first time mine came out good and it did boost my confidence, it changed my mindset and showed me you can get paid doing what you love to do.
What has been your biggest motivation to continue doing what you love to do?
I am my biggest motivation. We have to make sure we keep ourself happy. Choose you always.
What was life like for you growing up? Do you think that any struggles you faced growing up led you to want to have a creative outlet?
Growing up I didn’t always have it like others. My mother did her best as a single mother raising 4 girls on her own. She kept a roof over our head, clothes on our back and food in our mouth. So for that I’m forever grateful, however, the the way I grew up and was raised I would go into my own imagination for entertainment and my imagination created my creativity.
What has been the biggest challenge in your life and how did you overcome that to become the beautiful and strong woman you are today?
My biggest challenge in life was realizing I could only depend on myself. It’s apart of growth, you know. A lot of times I felt like I could depend on people but when I realized I couldn’t it created independency for me. That independent mindset I have now helps me do for myself and raise my babies. But it wasn’t easy to create that mindset.
So, I know you are a full-time mama to my handsome God baby (I love you baby! Shout out to you) and you work from home as well! Trust me when I tell you I know how tiring that can be on a day to day. Tell us how you get through it all and what you do to relax.
I honestly take it a day at a time. Sometimes when the times get rough , you think you can’t go another day doing it but I just pray and push myself to get through it. Prayer always helps. So on a typical day to relax , I’ll pour me up a glass of cold white Pinot Grigio but since blaze’s brother is on the way, I go sit outside and I just listen to nature. It’s the most soothing thing. Kind of like a form of meditation.
When you’re feeling burned out from everything in life and hitting creative blocks, what do you run to in order to raise your vibrations and bring you back to the center?
When I get a foggy brain, sometimes I just take a break because honestly that what people need sometimes. People try to push through it and force the creativity to come back but I feel like that’s your brains way of trying to tell you that you need to relax for a bit.
What is your message to anyone who is a mom just trying to make it in this world and have their own business and be self-made?
I mean of course we have to do what we have to do to survive but don’t forget about you and your passions. You still have to live.
Do you have any other talents and hobbies? If so, what are they?
Besides hair and makeup, I love music and painting. Those two things are put on hold while I am pregnant but they will resume soon. So be on the look out.
What are all of the services that you are currently offering and booking for?
Currently hair services that you can find on my hair page and make-up services.
What are you most thankful for in your life right now?
Mostly thankful for my babies/ my little family.
What is the end all goal for your life personally and professionally? What will be the catalyst in your life that will make you say, damn, I have finally made it?
⁃ seeing my sons grown as healthy, strong, sweet, successful black men
⁃ No longer working 9-5 and living a luxurious lifestyle as my own boss doing what I love
⁃ A peaceful life
Are there any special people you’d like to recognize or give thanks to?
⁃ God 🙏🏽 without him there would be no me.
⁃ & s/o to you for this amazing interview. I love you and thank you for the support 😘
