My desk currently…
July 2023 Books
So currently I am reading two books, yes two, and only two. LOL. Believe it or not, there are people who read like 5-6 books at a time, it's insane. But, I love it. If I had that kind of time, I would do the same.
So, I recently rediscovered my love for books and it has been amazing. I'm taking some time off from social media and to be honest, this new freedom has felt amazing, I may not even go back yet. I haven't decided.
I have always been a fan of Twilight, I am sure we all are! When the books came out, I believe I was in middle school and I was too concerned with boys, let's just be honest. I got caught up so much in friends, boys, and TV that I was rarely picking up any books at all. I never read the series and I always hated the fact that I was too intimidated by how big the books were. I wanted to be one of those people who were able to read big books with no issues, but at the time, I was not one of those people. Now, here I am 27, attempting to build my library from scratch. It's never too late to start picking up books you've always wanted to read and new books as well. I absolutely love reading and it's been so nice to be able to sit and read everyday and also enjoy what I am reading. I just started Twilight on Saturday and here it is Friday and I am about 100 pages away from finishing the book which has about 450 or so pages. For someone who is just getting back into reading, pregnant with two kids at home during this sweltering summer, I can say I am doing a damn good job of getting through the book, LOL. So many things I want to say but I will wait until the actual book review to spill my thoughts. Let's just say, WHAT THE FUCK? Because the book is so different than the movie it's insane!!! The book is 100 times better, that's all I will say for now.
Second, we have Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. Leo Tolstoy was a famous Russian writer back in the 19th century and this book was originally written in the 1800s which is insane. I am reading the Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky translation in the Penguins Classic Edition and it is actually very easy to understand and I am loving it! I just started it two nights ago and I am also annotating the book so it will take me a little longer to read, but it will be worth it. I cannot wait to do a book review on this one as well. That will come later though as I am only 30 pages in and the book is over 800 pages.
Anyway, just wanted to chat a little bit about what I am currently reading and I will be back again soon! Pick up a book and make yourself feel at home. Happy reading everyone.

[ So I just recently discovered that Twilight was originally published in 2005 and I was totally under the impression that it was published in like '07 when I was in 6th grade, lol. Funny how many things I've been learning since I walked back into the book world.
Today is Saturday July 15th 2023 and I just finished Twilight last night. I started it last Saturday so it took about a week to read 480 something pages. Not bad, not bad. So let's jump into the review. I also want to say that this review also compares the movie and the book because I cannot not talk about how awful the movie is compared to the book. So here we go. ]
So first I want to say that I truly enjoyed this book over the movie and I am giving it 4 stars. I wanted so badly to give it 5 stars, but I have my own little things to pick with regarding the book, nothing too serious though. A little background about the book: It's about a teenage girl, Bella Swan, who moved from Arizona with her mom and step dad to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her dad. It follows her and thoughts and feelings as she navigates through being the new girl at a new school and also meeting and falling in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen. First I want to say how much I loved the way that Meyer captured Bella's personality in this book. I think that the movie adaptation of this book did a terrible job of capturing Bella and who she truly is now that I have read the book. In the book, Bella has way more attitude and personality. Yes, she is still shy, however, she has more fierceness in the book which I absolutely love. You're also able to take a look into her mind in a way that isn't captured in the movie as well. I know that she narrates Twilight in the movie, but not every thought was captured in the movie and to be honest, if they would've captured more of her thoughts, I think the movie would've been a lot better. In the book, she is clearly obsessed with Edward and of course we know this already, but the book captures it in a way that makes it so cute and funny honestly. She calls him beautiful and angelic. She can barely breathe when he's around and in one part of the book, she fainted in his arms.
"His fingers traced slowly down my spine, his breath coming more quickly against my skin. My hands were limp on his chest, and I felt light-headed again. He tilted his head slowly and touched his cool lips to mine for the second time, very carefully, parting them slightly. And then I collapsed."
LOL. That part made me laugh because she is so obsessed with him and its hilarious but cute at the same time. There are a lot of moments like that in the book where she just cannot get it together because she is in his presence. I truly don't believe the movie captures just how much she loves Edward so it was actually really nice to read her thoughts and emotions regarding him.
Another thing that I really enjoyed about the book was that Bella and Edward spent a lot more time together in the book and you are able to go through many scenes of them getting to know each other which is another thing that the movie lacked. I really enjoyed reading Edward in this book as well. In the book, he is way more mysterious and sarcastic and Bella is also sarcastic so they fit perfectly together.
A lot of the book takes place in the school which was another interesting thing and also something that the movie cut out, big time. You get to see the personalities more of Mike and Jessica who are friends of Bella and also semi main characters in the movie. I enjoyed reading the giddy high school girl moments between Bella and Jess. Even though Bella doesn't physically show much "giddiness", her thoughts do, LOL.
The one thing that I did not like was just how it did kind of get a little slow towards the end leading up to when Bella is having to run away from the tracker, James. Who is obsessed with catching Bella and serving her up for dinner. I feel like the action leading up to that in the book could've been a little better, but overall, the book held it's ground and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I cannot wait to read Midnight Sun as I know Edward's point of view is probably way more interesting just because he can read minds. So I know that I will learn a lot more about the other characters and their true personal thoughts and feelings.
